Flavor Flav Recalls Miley Cyrus Smacking His Face After He Mistook Her for Gwen Stefani: ‘We Laughed It Off’

Years ago, Flavor Flav mistook Miley Cyrus for Gwen Stefani — and she responded with playful revenge.

After a video of Cyrus appreciating Flav now knowing her name while backstage at the 2024 Grammys went viral, the Public Enemy rapper opened up about mistaking her for Stefani in a new podcast interview Just B with Bethenny Frankel.

“There was a time a few years ago when they both had the exact same haircut. That’s what got me,” Flav, 64, said, apparently referring to Cyrus’ short, blonde Bangerz-era ‘to do. “When I ran into Miley for the first time in my life, I was like, ‘Oh my God, Gwen Stefani, Gwen Stefani!’ You know what? Miley didn’t say anything. She just went along with it.”

After their first meeting, one of the The taste of love the star’s friends let him know that he had mistaken the two musicians for one another – and he felt bad. “I turned and ran back to her,” Flav said before remembering what he had said to her. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry. Yo, Miley Cyrus, now I know who you are. Your daddy Billy Ray Cyrus.'”

“I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so stupid,'” added the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who then explained how Cyrus reacted: “She punched me in the face. She punched me in the face. Miley Cyrus slapped Flavor Flava in the face and I said, ‘I won’t let that happen again. We laughed about it’.

While backstage at the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier this month, according to a video shared on social networksCyrus jokingly called out Flav because she had mistaken her for the No Doubt frontman in the past.

In the clip, which appears to have been taken after Cyrus performed “Flowers” at the annual awards show, the rap icon called Hannah Montana alum’s name, and she came over to hug him. “You know it’s me! I did it,” she exclaimed as she stood next to her mom, Tish.

“You don’t think I’m Gwen Stefani anymore,” Cyrus told Flav. “You called me Gwen every time I saw you.”

“I know,” he admitted, to which Cyrus assured him, “I like it.”

The pair then exchanged “I love you”, before she pointed to Flav’s watch necklace and said: “You know what time it is!”

Flav scoffed at the interaction X (formerly Twitter)writing in the post, “My girl Gwen Stefani,,, I mean MILEY CYRUS @MileyCyrus Give My Girl her FLOWERS.”

Elsewhere on Only B podcast, Flav said that Cyrus “lit up like a Christmas tree” during their meeting at the Grammys. “Miley loves herself some Flav,” he joked.

Prior to the awards this year, the two stars have met on multiple occasions, including the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival as well as VH1 Big in ’06 broadcast.
