Man Burning Clothes on the Street Allegedly Yelled Racial Slurs, Stabbed and Bit Bystander: Police

An Oregon man has been arrested after allegedly yelling racial slurs at three people and biting and stabbing one of them with scissors, according to reports.

Authorities responded Saturday to a street in Portland, Ore., where a man allegedly set his clothes on fire, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement released over the weekend.

Fire department personnel at the scene said the suspect, Corey A. Nesenson, also allegedly stabbed a bystander with scissors and bit him “calling him racial slurs,” the statement said.

Portland Police were quickly dispatched to the scene. While Nesenson, 42, was being arrested, he allegedly spat at the officer, authorities said.

Nesenson was charged with second-degree assault, first-degree bias crime, aggravated harassment, reckless burning and fourth-degree assault, police said in a statement.

Investigators also suspect Nesenson may have been “chasing a biracial couple and calling them racial slurs” before allegedly attacking the victim, according to the affidavit. The couple had not been located as of Saturday, police said.

KGW 8 and FOX 12 identified the stabbing victim as Payton Thomas. Thomas told KGW he was visiting a friend in the neighborhood when he saw Nesenson allegedly start the fire.

He also claimed to have seen the suspect chasing an interracial couple. “He was really trying to attack them,” Thomas claimed, reports KGW 8.

Nesenson then accused Thomas and his friend, he said, according to KGW 8. Thomas claimed the suspect then yelled a racial slur, according to FOX 12.
