Flavor Flav Was 'Shocked' to Be Named One of PEOPLE's Sexiest Men Alive: 'I Don’t Feel I’m Sexy'

Flavor Flav was pleasantly surprised when he made this top notch.

In an interview with Rolling Stone that was released Dec. 30, the “Fight The Power” singer talked about being among celebrities in their 60s for PEOPLE’s 2024 Sexiest Man Alive issue.

When asked if he was surprised to be among “Denzel Washington and Andy Garcia” on the Sexiest At Any Age list, Flav, 65, said he was indeed shocked.

“It really surprised me because I don’t feel sexy. I was shocked when I saw it,” he said.

The rapper then recalled the moment a woman called him “ugly” and asked to take a picture with him: “There was a lady who came up to me at the airport and said, ‘Ooh, Flavor Flav. You’re so ugly, but I want to take a picture with by you.’ And you know what I did? ‘Okay, let’s go.’

“I didn’t hurt her back or anything,” Flav added, noting that “some people have told him I’m ugly.”

The Public Enemy rapper responded online to comments from December with a picture of himself in PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. “People Magazine says otherwise, calling me one of the sexiest men of any age,” he wrote. “A good guy,,, a good heart,,, goes a long way. Something you wouldn’t know anything about.”

Overall, Flav’s mention on the PEOPLE SMA list made him “feel really good inside.”

“I’m like, ‘Wow, how can I be one of the sexiest men alive? You can’t even see my eyes. I was wearing sunglasses.’ But hey, I’m not going to lie,” he said Rolling Stone.

Maybe the secret to being on PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive list is smelling good. In October, Flav told PEOPLE that he has worn the same cologne for more than 50 years.

“Everyone should want to smell fresh [their] under the armpit up to [their] toes,” he said then.

“When I was a kid, my dad always kept Old Spice in the bathroom cabinet. It was the cologne I wore when I went to school in the fourth grade.” He has relied on the brand ever since.
