Florida Thieves Use Tractor Trailers to Steal 4,277 Cases of Alcohol Worth Over $1.6M 

Thieves in Florida pulled off a major heist using tractor trailers at a liquor distributor, getting away with more than $1.6 million worth of booze, according to CNN, ABC 11 and NBC 2.

The burglary happened July 8 at Republic National Distributing Company south of Tampa in Gibsonton, according to a recently unsealed search warrant obtained by CNN.

The search warrant, which targeted the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, said thieves took 4,277 cases of liquor from the company, which distributes brands such as Franzia Wines and Jose Cuervo, between 4:10 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

According to CNN, authorities had probable cause to believe the phone contained “specific information, technical data and evidence” that corroborated the break-in, the warrant said.

The warrant also stated that the thieves, identified as “unknown suspects,” took digital video recorders used by the alcohol distributor for video surveillance at the branches.

Surveillance video from the store and a nearby business helped police identify the tractor-trailers used during the incident, the warrant continued.

Authorities released multiple tractor-trailer storage videos that revealed three tractor-trailers used by the suspects to haul away crates of alcohol, according to ABC 11 .

RNDC is “one of the nation’s leading wholesale alcohol distributors,” according to the company’s website.

Kanchan Kinkade, RNDC’s vice president of corporate communications, told CNN, “While we cannot comment at this time because this is an active law enforcement investigation, we are confident that law enforcement is taking this case seriously and taking all necessary steps to find the perpetrators of this crime.”
