Footballer stabbed to death in nightclub ‘revenge’ attack after ‘making “unavoidable” contact with one of his killers’

A FOOTBALLER was stabbed to death in a “planned act of revenge” after making “inevitable” contact with one of his killers, a court heard.

Cody Fisher, 23, was in a crowded bar on Christmas Eve 2022 when he shoved Remy Gordon in the back while leaving with friends.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Gordon, 23, then hatched an act of “horrendous revenge” for a minor incident.

He allegedly sent messages to his friends on Snapchat asking for help identifying Cody while threatening to “stun” him.

On Boxing Day, Gordon went to Crane nightclub with co-accused Kami Carpenter, 22, and 19-year-old Reegan Anderson.

When he got there, Cody was stabbed in the chest – puncturing his heart – and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A close friend he was with was also chased and kicked but managed to escape, jurors were told.

Prosecutor Michael Duck KC said: “The prosecution say this was a concerted and planned attack involving extreme violence.

“That Cody Fisher was attacked was no accident. It was not a flash of anger – it was a planned act of retaliation.”

Jurors heard Cody’s “minor altercation” with Gordon happened just 48 hours before he was killed.

He was with his friend at the Popworld club in Solihull, which was described as “packed” that night.

Cody and his friend made their way to the exit through a crowd of revelers, including Gordon.

Mr Duck said: “It appears there was brief contact between Cody Fisher and Remy Gordon’s back.

“It appears that Cody Fisher did more than touch Remy Gordon’s back. Remy Gordon was looking for a fight with someone.”

The court was told that Gordon “challenged” the footballer, who refused to apologize because he had done “nothing wrong”.

Cody left the club, unaware that he had embarked on a path of retribution that “was ultimately to lead to loss [his] young life”, it was said.

Mr Duck added: “Strength [Gordon’s] resentment can be gleaned from messages sent within about 50 minutes of meeting in Popworld.

“He felt quite embarrassed and frustrated that he had failed to intimidate a member of the public.”

Gordon, Carpenter and Anderson deny the murder and fight.

Cody was a former Birmingham City academy member who also played for Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting.

The trial continues.
