Alas. High school band director accused of inappropriate sexual relationship with student

A mathematics teacher at Wellington Community High School was arrested in September after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. Under Florida law, the age of consent is 18, and those 16 and 17 can only consent to a partner under the age of 24.

Maglio was investigated by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, and the teacher faced two felony charges, unlawful sexual activity with a minor and trespass against a student by authority. However, the office dismissed the charges due to the suspect’s death, it reports The Palm Beach Post.

The investigation began in December 2022, after flowers were sent to the victim’s workplace, according to an arrest affidavit, Local 10 News reports. The victim’s manager called the flower shop and asked for the sender’s name, the agency reports.

Wisconsin Christian camp counselor accused of inappropriate sexual contact involving 10-year-old boy’s sleepover

According to Local 10 News, the victim reached out to Maglia to alert him that her grandmother had been contacted. Maglio and the victim allegedly deleted all their text messages.

The victim told authorities that their relationship began when she began visiting his classroom after school, and they continued to communicate through social media. The teenager told authorities that she and Maglio had sex “several times” at his apartment and also slept at his residence, Local 10 News reported.

After the victim was questioned, detectives obtained a search warrant for Maglio’s apartment. Authorities found clothing worn by the victim. In September, they confirmed that test results had arrived that showed Maglio’s DNA on the victim’s underwear found in Maglio’s apartment.

Later, investigators set up a monitored conversation between the former teacher and the victim. During the call, Maglio allegedly claimed to be in love and told the victim, “I’ve always seen you as a woman. I’m not a predator,” CBS 12 reports.
