Former Friends Actor Says Matthew Perry Shut Down Plot Involving Chandler Cheating on Monica

“The One Where Chandler Cheated” — that’s almost one Friendthe episode is gone.

Actress Lisa Cash, who appeared in the Season 5 episode “The One in Vegas: Part 1,” revealed that she was originally part of a storyline where Matthew Perry’s character Chandler Bing cheated on Courteney Cox’s Monica Geller. But the plot was eventually interrupted because Perry spoke up.

“Basically, the scene was Chandler and Monica fighting [Las] Vegas … Chandler goes to the hotel room, orders room service and I bring it up as a hotel worker,” Cash told TMZ. “And we end up talking and laughing and bonding, and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.”

Cash said they “tried everything.” But the day before they were to film in front of a live audience, Perry asked to change the story.

Friends Filmmaker Why Matthew Perry Made ‘Perfect’ Chandler Bing: ‘He Was Inventive’

“I was told that [he] he went into the writers and said that the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica, which he was probably right,” Cash explained. “It would probably change the course of the series and its character.”

Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment about the incident and whether the story has been changed.

Cash said that since the storyline was changed, she was instead featured in the same episode as a flight attendant on Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) and Ross Geller’s (David Schwimmer) flight. However, she recalled how “neat” it was to work with Perry one-on-one.

“I was coming and I was new to the industry. And it could have been really scary for me to have… a scene with Matthew Perry, but I felt so comfortable,” she noted.

“He was really nice and welcoming and just made me feel at ease, and it’s fun, you know,” she added. “It was a lot of fun to do a scene with him and it was easy to do a scene with him.”
