Former Survived contestant Nick Brown became the first black man to be elected attorney general in Washington state.
Brown, a Democrat, defeated Pasco Mayor Pete Serrano, a Republican, on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the state election to succeed Bob Ferguson, who has been selected to be Washington’s next governor, according to Seattle Times and NBC News.
At a party Tuesday at the Seattle Convention Center, Brown, 47, promised his office would defend “your civil rights, your abortion rights, your environmental protections” in Washington. “I have so much to build on the work that Bob and his team have done to defend the rights of Washingtonians,” he continued, according to time. “I plan to pick up that baton in the coming days.”
