Fortnite

Fortnite, developed by Epic Games and released in 2017, is an extremely popular online video game. It offers three different versions: Fortnite Battle Royale, Fortnite: Save the World and Fortnite Creative. Despite their differences, these versions share a common gameplay experience and game engine.

Fortnite Battle Royale, a free-to-play mode, pits up to 100 players against each other in an exciting battle to stand last. On the other hand, Fortnite: Save the World combines elements of cooperative tower defense, shooter and survival genres.

In this mode, teams of up to four players work together to fend off zombie-like creatures and protect facilities using traps and forts they can build. Lastly, Fortnite Creative gives players complete freedom to unleash their creativity by building unique worlds and engaging in exciting battles within custom arenas.

The game originally launched in 2017 with Save the World and Battle Royale as Early Access titles, while Creative was unveiled on December 6, 2018. While all versions have had success, Fortnite Battle Royale in particular has achieved exceptional popularity, quickly becoming a cultural phenomenon.

Within a year, it had amassed over 125 million players and generated hundreds of millions of dollars in monthly revenue. As of December 2019, Fortnite as a whole has generated a whopping $9 billion in gross revenue.

Save the World is available for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Battle Royale and Creative were originally released for those platforms as well, but were later expanded to Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices. Furthermore, Fortnite debuted alongside the ninth generation consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Fortnite’s broad appeal and continued growth have cemented its position as one of the most influential and successful video games in recent years.
