Nargis Fakhri started her modeling career at the age of 16. She competed in the second and third seasons of the American reality television show America’s Next Top Model (2004). In the competition, she was selected for the first two challenges of the two cycles, but failed to enter the top twelve in the third challenge.

She then worked as a professional model in the United States, working for a freelance agency and appearing in fashion shows. She rose to fame after appearing in the 2009 Kingfisher Calendar India print advertising campaign.

Her appearance in the Kingfisher calendar caught the attention of Indian film producer Imtiaz Ali, who decided to cast Nargis in his film Rockstar (2011). Nargis made her acting debut in the film “Rockstar” as “Heer Kaul”. The film is the first in India to show a Kashmiri Pandit wedding. Due to her poor pronunciation of Hindi, her voice in the film was dubbed by Indian dubbing artist and singer Mona Ghosh Shetty. She even received a nomination for Best Actress at the Indian Film Festival for the film.
She is known for her roles in Madras Cafe (2013), Main Tera Hero (2014), Azhar (2016), Amavas ( 2019) and other films. She made her Hollywood debut in “Spy” (2015), directed by Paul Feig (American actor and director), playing the role of “Lea”.

- In 2014, she was reportedly awarded the Medal of Honor by the Special Tiger Conservation Force (STPF) for her activities to protect endangered tigers. However, this sparked outrage from wildlife conservationists as the award was originally only given to ministers or senior officials.
- When her advert for Pakistani mobile operator Mobilink appeared in Pakistan’s leading newspaper Jang in 2015, Pakistanis expressed their outrage on social media, calling the ad cheap and ridiculous. The entire experience of promoting the film, albeit brief, was very laborious due to a complete lack of communication and planning on their part (producer Sachin Joshi and the film’s team). - Nargis’ mother was born in the former Czechoslovakia and worked as a mechanical engineer and draftsman. Her mother dreamed of seeing the world, and in the process, she left her home country and moved to New York City, where she began living in a refugee camp. Her mother did not understand English and her professional qualifications were not accepted, so she started working as a cleaner in a restaurant.

- Her mother met her father while working in a restaurant. Unfortunately, things were not going well between her parents and they separated, leaving her mother with two daughters to raise. Her mother used to go to school during the day to learn the language and work at night to take care of Nargis and her sister.
