He participated in many gospel groups and was an enthusiastic member of them. Fred is currently signed to Verity Records as a solo artist and is known for his Dove, Grammy and Stellar Award winning work, as well as being nominated as a producer, songwriter and singer. He was first noted as the bass guitarist for the gospel group Winans, then as one of the original six members of the commissioned group in 1985, appearing on 10 of the group’s 12 albums.
But his relationship did not last long and their partnership ended. His musical ensemble Radical For Christ sold millions of copies, and it was the album that helped him become prominent in the gospel world. In 2002, he returned to the group “Commissioned” and produced a commissioned reunion live CD. Keith Staten, Michael Williams, Mitchell Jones, Marcus Cole, Marvin Sapp and Karl Reid all contributed to the plate.
He also wrote numerous songs for and performed with Sean Combs’ album On the Thank Your Record. He also wrote and co-wrote the song “Make Me Like The Moon” with Kenny Lattimore and Chante. The song was written for the Uncovered/Covered double CD of gospel and R&B love songs released in 2006.
