Basham’s ankle gave way beneath him and it was immediately apparent that he was in serious discomfort.
The match then saw a long delay as Basham received treatment on the pitch.
Ambulance staff had to give the 35-year-old oxygen as he lay on the lawn of Craven Cottage.
Concerned manager Paul Heckingbottom broke protocol by entering the pitch and supporting his player.
In the end, the doctors put him on a stretcher and took him out of the stadium.
In a touching moment, both sets of fans applauded Basham for his bravery in the face of injury.
Basham was able to wave to fans in the crowd to thank them for their support despite clearly being in a lot of pain.
An ambulance has now taken Basham from the stadium to the hospital.

The images of the broken ankle were so horrific that replays were not shown.
A total of 14 minutes of added time were added to the first half to make up for the significant deficit at Craven Cottage.
Sheffield United tweeted: “Jack Robinson replaces Chris Basham who leaves Craven Cottage on a stretcher after a long layoff. We send our best wishes to Bash and will update as soon as we have them.”
Fulham added: “We’ve had a long layoff after a really nasty injury to Chris Basham, who will be sidelined. We all send you our best wishes, Chris.”
Sky Sports pundit Michael Dawson told presenter Simon Thomas he couldn’t watch a replay of the injury – such was the severity.
He said on Football Saturday: “We had a nasty injury, Si.
“He just started to throw the ball in. Maybe there was a collection, maybe he planted his foot. Unfortunately, I had a hard time watching it the second time.
“He’s got a very, very serious injury and all the best to Chris Basham. We’ve got a break in the game, the paramedics are involved… Chris, get well soon.”
Fulham would celebrate with 3-1 when the game returned.
