Gail O’Grady is a film director and actor from the United States. She is best known for her role as Donna Abandando in Steven Bochco and David Milch’s mystery crime thriller NYPD Blue, in which she co-starred with Dennis Franz, Jimmy Smits and Gordon Clapp. Grady is also well known for her starring roles in a number of television specials. She was nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards.

Career
Grady began her career as a model for Montgomery Ward by appearing in several commercials. She was in the area where Michael J. Fox’s character chased after the Diet Pepsi. Eventually, she started appearing in cameos, usually as evil. She made her film debut in the 1988 romantic comedy and then appeared as a recurring character on the ABC soap opera China Beach, starring Dana Delany. Her breakthrough role was Donna Abandando on the ABC detective program NYPD Blue. From 1993 to 1996, Grady starred as a unit assistant with big hair, earning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series each year.
She won the Screen Actors Guild Award in 1995 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. The Gail O’Grady Project, her comic pilot, was canceled by all networks after Gail left the series in 1996. American Dreams, a 2002–2005 NBC series about an all-American family in 1960s Philadelphia, starred Gail as Helen Pryor. It ended after three seasons. In the fall of 2005, Grady was the anchor of ABC’s Hot Properties. 13 shows completed the series. In 2006 and 2007, she played Gloria Weldon, a judge close to lawyer Alan Shore, in the films Two and a Half Men and Boston Lawyers.
