Garima Lohia was born in 1999 in Buxar, Bihar (24 years old; as of 2023). She completed her primary education at Woodstock School in Buxar. Thereafter, he studied at Sunshine School in Bhagwanpur, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. In 2017, she enrolled in Kirori Mal College, Delhi, where she completed her graduation in Accountancy. In 2020, she returned to her hometown Buxar from Delhi during the Covid-19 pandemic. She started preparing for the civil services exam during the Covid-19 lockdown. Interestingly, she prepared for the exam through the Internet and other basic books and resources, without attending any coaching classes. She did, however, take part in a series of power tests. She failed to pass the preliminaries in her first attempt but scored 1063 points in her second attempt.

Her father, Manoj Kumar Lohia, is a wholesale clothing trader in Buxar district. He died of a heart attack in 2015. Thereafter, her mother, Sunita Lohia, raised her four children alone. Her mother is a housewife. Garima Lohia lives in a joint family of 13 members, where her grandfather is the breadwinner. Garima has two sisters and a brother. Her sister got married in Jabalpur while her brother Varun Lohia is a student of commerce college. The name of one of her sisters is Astha Lohia.
