Gary Oldman would like it differently Harry Potter role in the upcoming reboot TV series.
The Slow horses star spoke to IndieWire at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, Sept. 15, and said he hasn’t been “approached” about the series — but he also doesn’t expect it to be for his original character Sirius, if Black.
“I’d bet my money that they’re going to get a whole new cast of people,” said Oldman, 66. “Maybe in a few years I could be doing Dumbledore.”
Regardless, “I love Sirius,” he said of his movie character, the godfather of boy wizard Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) who was wrongly imprisoned for 12 years until his 2004 escape. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
“He wasn’t into it enough. He appeared and then passed through the veil,” Oldman added of Sirius, who died prematurely in the arms of his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter) just two films later: in 2007. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

News of the reboot of the series — which first catapulted actors Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Radcliffe, 35, to big-screen stardom in 2001 — was first reported in April 2023.
Last week HBO confirmed Diversity the authenticity of the casting call poster which appeals to aspiring actors and actresses, especially to play the main trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
The notice further states that “qualified contractors” will also be considered regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender identity and more.
“We are committed to an inclusive, diverse cast,” the poster read. “For each role, please submit qualified performers, regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law, unless otherwise noted.”

Regarding his performance as Sirius, Oldman previously called his work in the films “mediocre” during an appearance in December 2023. Happy Sad Confused podcast.
But during a Cannes Film Festival press conference in May, he clarified that he thought he believed he “might have approached” the role “differently,” had he read each of the Harry Potter novels featuring his character before his scenes were shot.
“Maybe I looked at it differently and painted it in a different color. so when i started Harry Potterall I had was a book Prisoner of Azkaban and that one performance of that man. One book in Sirius Black’s library,” Oldman said.
“And that’s kind of what I was thinking. I’m not the one watching the movie and saying it’s a terrible movie or that I’m terrible,” he added.
