Gayle King Doesn't 'Wanna Be a Slave' to Makeup in Rare Bare Face Moment on Drew Barrymore Show

Gayle King has her makeup-free look!

On Sunday 27.10. The Drew Barrymore Show posted a TikTok showing the actress, 49, along with her guests — King, 69, Gillian Anderson and Valerie Bertinelli — going bare-faced for last week’s episode of “Bare Is Beautiful.”

At the start of the video, Barrymore admitted that he’s “been makeup-free for most of my life”, before joking that the camera monitor was “doing tricks on me today”.

“Every time I look at myself, I notice myself fixing my hair like it’s going to change,” she continued about her look.

The Charlie’s Angels The star then asked her guests how they felt about being on television without makeup.

“It’s funny because I went to Gillian [dressing] room and said: ‘Are you going to leave on your eyelashes?’ ‘Cause I’m trying to decide, ‘Can I leave it on the lashes?’ ” King said as The X-Files laughed the 56-year-old actress.

According to a broadcast reporter, Anderson said she was taking off “everything,” including her eyelashes — helping King go ahead and do the same for the sake of the episode.

“Look, I’m not breaking up about taking pictures without makeup, but it’s different when you’re on national TV,” King said. “It’s very different when you post it on your Instagram or just walk around.”

A CBS news personality shared her experiences when she was seen in public without makeup in her spare time.

“I’ve had experiences where I walk outside and people hear me talk and say, ‘You sound like Gayle King. Are you her?’ she said. “And I say ‘Yes,’ and then they’ll say, ‘Are you in disguise?’ ”

King said after explaining that she simply wasn’t wearing make-up, she was being complimented – leaving her feeling like “it’s not what they think”.

“Just for someone to say, ‘Are you in disguise?’ is an indication of how drastic [different] I think I look good without makeup,” she continued.

Still, other people’s interpretations haven’t changed King’s mind about wanting to always look perfectly put together.

“But I don’t want to be a slave to it. My mother used to say: ‘Don’t leave the house without makeup. May you always have makeup.’ And I decided I didn’t want to be that guy,” she said.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon on Sept. 17, King opened up about the comments she received from her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover earlier this year.

I had so many women come up to me and say, that was so brave, King said. “Was it brave? I was just excited. That’s what it was for me. To show you that he’s 69 and I feel really good.”
