Gayle King continues her sweetness CBS Morning tradition.
On Jan. 9, the broadcaster celebrated her 13th anniversary on the daytime show and promptly slipped back into her signature yellow and white Alex Kramer dress, the same one she wore on her first day as co-host in 2012.
As she received congratulations from her co-hosts Nate Burleson and Vladimir Duthiers — and a bouquet of yellow roses from Drew Barrymore — King said the occasion seemed “insignificant with what’s going on in the world today.”
“I’m very happy to be here 13 years later, but I’m still thinking about what’s going on in California, but thank you so much for this,” she added, referring to the wildfires raging through Southern California.

When Duthiers asked her if she thought she would ever reach such a milestone in her career, King recalled a conversation she had with Diane Sawyer. “I said Diane, how did you do this for 10 years? I could never do such a thing.”

King has re-worn the dress every anniversary and, despite being a bit “scrappy”, she still shows love year after year.
On her 12th CBS Morning anniversary, King shared the backstory behind choosing the sunny design. “I knew I wanted to wear yellow the first day because it’s my favorite color,” King recalled. “And I said, ‘I’ll wait and see if I’m still here, and then I’ll put it back on.’ 12 years later, here we are still excited to be sitting here.”

On December 28, 2024, King celebrated another important moment in her life — her 70th birthday!
Previously, her longtime friend Oprah Winfrey gave her a surprise, to which she had the most shocking reactions. In a video shared on Instagram, King could be seen completely taken aback when a roomful of guests began singing “Happy Birthday” to her.
But Winfrey prepared another surprise for her best friend that day: she invited Tyler Perry to an intimate dinner with King’s friends and family.
Of course, there was no shortage of yellow at the get-together, as the King’s loved ones were dressed in her favorite shade. She wore a casual butter yellow knit dress and tinted glasses. In addition to themed outfits, the King’s party included a tiered lemon yellow birthday cake topped with bubbly.
“All I can say is turning 70 is a blast, especially with @oprah digging into her bag of ‘surprises’. ‘This time one of my favorite people on the planet @tylerperry showed up for dinner! Open to all new adventures .. we are looking forward to 2025!!” – wrote King on Instagram.
