GB News has suspended Laurence Fox and Dan Wootton after an interview in which they discussed political reporter Ava Evans, with the reporter claiming the discussion made her “physically ill”. Actor Laurence Lewis spoke about Ava to Dan Wootton, who hosted the show, saying: “Show me one self-respecting man who would like to climb into bed with that woman, who wasn’t an incel.” He added: “Who would want that shit”. GB News has now confirmed that Dan has also been suspended, despite apologizing for his role in the interview.
Ava responded to the situation after the show, tweeting: “Laurence Fox just gave a whole speech on GB News about why men apparently won’t f*ck me? I feel physically sick.” Her post was met with support, with one person writing: “They did it. They actually did it. GB News didn’t just cross the line… they flew past and landed four studios away. Apparently nothing is really going to end because that is where we are now with this shower. There’s a letter coming from Ofcom. They’re walling it off.”

Labor MP Stella Creasy writes: “This is a clear breach of @Ofcom’s guidance on your right to privacy and unfair treatment – you shouldn’t put up with this and it’s their job to make sure British news is held accountable. If it doesn’t work, let us know and we will follow it.”
Ofcom confirmed they had received the complaints on Twitter, writing: “We can confirm we have received a number of complaints about Laurence Fox’s comments on GB News last night. We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules and will announce the outcome as quickly as possible.”

Dan apologized for the situation in a post, writing: “I want to reiterate my regret for my exchange with Laurence on GB News last night. Having watched the video, I can see how inappropriate my reaction to his completely unacceptable remarks seemed and I want to be clear that the comments did not offend me in what way they were not amused I reacted as I did out of shock and surprise in a moment of unpreparedness as I thought of how to respond as he continued to speak looking for tweets @AvaSantina sent earlier that day while they were reading them in my ear at the same time.
“However, I should have intervened immediately to challenge the offensive and misogynistic remarks. I apologize unreservedly for what was a very unfortunate lapse in judgment on my part under the intense pressure of a bizarre exchange. I know I should have done better. I am devastated that I let myself down. team and our supportive GBN family. We strive to address the problem, not the person, which I intend to reiterate tonight.”
Laurence then retweeted Dan’s statement along with a screenshot of a message exchange, allegedly between him and Dan, with the caption “Honesty is the best policy.” A message from Laurence read: “Making you giggle is my weekly joy,” to which another person responded with smiling and crying emojis, adding: “You can imagine they’re going crazy in the gallery!!!!”
