Davis’ memorable films from the 1990s are included A league of its own, Stuart Little and A long kiss good night. In that decade, Sarandon meanwhile shot films like Foster mother, Little woman and Walking Dead.

And, of course, Davis and Sarandon shared the screen in 1991 Thelma & Louise. It was directed by Ridley Scott, and the film also starred Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen and Brad Pitt.

In the film, Louise (Sarandon) and Thelma (Davis) embark on a road trip that quickly turns into a crime spree. The women evade the authorities for the last time by driving to their deaths in the Grand Canyon. Both Sarandon and Davis earned Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for their roles.

In a conversation with 2021 The Hollywood Reporter about the film’s legacy, Davis said Thelma & Louise “changed everything about how I chose roles going forward.”

“What was so striking was the intense reaction to the film,” she said. “Thelma and Louise ends up driving off a cliff, and yet the audience was enthralled by their story. I realized how few opportunities we give women to come out of a movie inspired and empowered by female characters. That changed everything about how I was casting going forward. forward.”

Davis and Sarandon have reunited several times over the years to celebrate Thelma & Louiseincluding its 25th anniversary in 2016 and 30th in 2021.
