Geoff Corrigan’s obituary states that he is survived by his children, ex-wife, mother, brother, sister and other loved ones. Geoff, who was born Nov. 25, 1982, led a colorful and competitive life until his death Dec. 6, 2023. Corrigan, who graduated in 2005, earned four letters in gymnastics from 2002-05.
In 2005, he was named an All-American on the parallel bars and was named team captain for the 2004-05 season. Following his time at Michigan, Corrigan trained at the United States Olympic Training Center under former world champion Vitaly Marinich. During that time, he finished eighth in the all-around at the United States Gymnastics Championships, earning him a spot on the United States Senior National Team. In addition, in 2008, he worked as an athlete ambassador at the Olympic Training Center.
Geoff Corrigan’s obituary and cause of death
Geoff Corrigan, Olympic coach, passed away on December 6, 2023. Unfortunately, no specific information has been released about the cause of his death. Geoffrey’s children, William Corrigan (8) and Evelyn Corrigan (5), survived him. He is also survived by his mother Kim Matheny, brother Brandon Matheny and sister Brooke Matheny, all of whom live in Colorado Springs.
Moreover, despite their different paths, his ex-wife, Rachel Corrigan, remained a support in his life. A memorial service for Geoffrey Corrigan will be held on January 21, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the University of Minnesota – Sports Coliseum, where Geoff spent countless hours coaching and teaching the sport he loved. This gathering allows individuals whose lives have been impacted by Geoffrey to come together, share memories, offer condolences and recognize a life truly well lived.
Syque Caesar, who Corrigan coached at the 2012 Olympics, shared his grief, saying:
“I am incredibly saddened by the tragic loss of my coach, mentor and friend Geoff Corrigan.”
Geoff Corrigan’s Educational and Professional
Corrigan graduated from William J. Palmer High School and received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Michigan. Corrigan was integral to the success of the University of Michigan men’s gymnastics team during his outstanding 11-season tenure as an assistant coach. His services were instrumental in Michigan’s back-to-back NCAA and Big Ten championships, earning him the coveted 2013-14 CGA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Corrigan helped Michigan win its fourth NCAA team championship in his first year with the Wolverines, the second under Kurt Golder and the first since 1999. Corrigan held many jobs at various companies in addition to his coaching career:
