George Clooney Reveals Relatable Parenting Santa Trick When Twins Are Misbehaving (Exclusive)

George Clooney is trying his best to encourage his twins to behave well.

The actor, 62, opened up to PEOPLE about his related parenting trick with Santa at the Los Angeles premiere of his latest directorial venture, Boys in a boaton Monday.

“They’re still all for Santa, which is a big help, because when my kids misbehave, say in July, they call me Santa,” Clooney tells PEOPLE of his six-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, who he shares with wife Amal Clooney .

“And I say, ‘Hey Santa, how’s it going?’ And he said: ‘Everything is going well. How are the children?’ And I say: ‘Well, I don’t know. Children, how are you?’ They are like, [whining]. And then I get away with it,” the couple continues to tease.

Adding that he chose a “friend” as Santa Claus, Clooney notes, “I actually have a friend whose phone rings ‘Santa Claus.’ ”

George and Amal (45) had their children in June 2017.

And three years after their arrival, George told PEOPLE how parenthood changed his outlook on the world.

“In marriage, and now with children, you show selfishness by looking only at yourself,” he said. “It’s a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. We feel so lucky.”

Lawyer and philanthropist Amal joined her husband on the red carpet on Monday and added a pop of color to the event – held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater – in a bright yellow A-line dress.

The activist teamed her floor-length dress, which featured a sweetheart neckline, with a metallic embellished clutch and wore her hair in beachy waves.

Meanwhile, George wore a black suit with a navy button-down shirt underneath.

The A ticket to heaven the star also posed with some of the cast Boys in a boat at the premiere, including Joel Edgerton, Callum Turner and Bruce Herbelin-Earle.

The film follows the real-life story of the 1936 University of Washington men’s rowing team, which went from a second-class college team to winning gold at the Summer Olympics in Berlin.

Boys in a boat it’s in theaters on December 25.
