George Brown, popularly known as “Funky”, lost his battle with lung cancer and died in Los Angeles. Smokers are more likely to get lung cancer, a cancerous condition that starts in the lungs. Lung cancer is categorized into two main types: small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer. This disease can be caused by smoking, inhalation of secondhand smoke, coming into contact with certain pollutants and a family history of the disease. Chronic coughing up blood, chest pain, wheezing and unexplained weight loss are common signs of lung cancer.
Unfortunately, these signs and symptoms usually appear after the cancer is well advanced. Treatment options for lung cancer are varied and may include immunotherapy, targeted drug therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. George Brown, famous drummer and original member of the legendary band Kool & the Gang, died suddenly in Long Beach, California on November 16, 2023. The band’s publicist confirmed his death and cited cancer as the cause. George Brown made his lung cancer diagnosis public three years ago during an interview with Los Angeles television station KCAL.
He endured chemotherapy and surgery despite this medical obstacle, showing incredible strength and perseverance. After a period of recovery, he renewed his love for music and touring by taking to the stage again in 2022. Unfortunately, George Brown’s cancer returned this year and eventually took his life.
