Career
Giles started working with a friend to launch their label “Doran Deacon” in 1992. But that same year he moved to Paris and started working for Jean-Charles, from whom he learned how to use the brand name commercially.
After returning to London in 1994, he started working as a freelancer. After being suggested by his friend Katie Grand, he soon became the head designer of the Italian leather goods brand Bottega Veneta.
He worked on it for three years. In 2000, Giles launched his debut collection under the BV brand, which attracted the attention of Gucci, which bought Bottega Veneta in 2001.
Giles’ contract was not renewed by Bottega Veneta’s new management, but he was hired by Gucci’s creative director, Tom Ford. He returned to London after doing one season because he fell ill with an infection.
