Giovanni Pernice’s fans share complaint following ’emotional’ Strictly return

Strictly is finally returning to our screens, and viewers were delighted to see the new cast strutting their stuff on Saturday night.

Former winner Giovanni Pernice was among the professional dancers who returned, this time partnered with actress Amanda Abbington.

However, as some of his fans commented on social media, there was one aspect of the couple’s routine that they weren’t too fond of…

The Italian took to Instagram, where he posted pictures of himself and Amanda during their Viennese waltz, which impressed the judges with its elegance. He captioned it: “Proud of you @amandaabbington74! Way to start. Did you enjoy yourself last night?”

While many of his fans were complimentary, one commented: “It’s been a long wait [crying-laughing emoji]… It was over when I woke up.” Another agreed, writing, “It was a long wait but worth it! Really beautiful and Amanda made you proud.”

A third, meanwhile, ranted about the scoring, writing: “Beautiful. Should have been a higher score…” The pair couldn’t be too disappointed, however, as they came second in the rankings along with three other couples, and a fourth fan commented is that the dance was “emotional”.

The couple paid respects and raised awareness for members of the deaf community in a routine when the music stopped as they continued to dance in silence. However, Rose caused a surprise earlier this year when she admitted in an interview that she didn’t like it at first.

“I hated it,” she said Guard. “I watched this pre-recorded video by outside choreographers and I immediately didn’t like what they came up with.”

She feared that dancing would get her a pity vote, adding: “I was all for the idea, as long as it wasn’t a patronizing trick. Try to get her a pity vote, all sad and dreary and ‘poor me’. That’s what people who hear they think deaf people experience.

“Very isolated, cut off, small. It was so sad. And that’s not me.” After reworking the routine, Rose embraced the dance because it began to feel more “real” to her.

She continued: “It wasn’t until camera rehearsals in the studio, when I was told that the crew – which never stops – were all dropping what they were doing to watch, that I thought, ‘This could be a big deal’.”
