Giriraj Singh is an Indian politician from Bihar. He served as Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries in the Narendra Modi government.

Giriraj Singh was born on September 8, 1952 in Barahiya (Lakhisarai district), Bihar (age 72 in 2024). His zodiac sign is Virgo. He studied in a government school in Balahiya village in Bihar. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Magadh University, Bodhgaya, Bihar, in 1971. Before entering politics, he was a social worker. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and worked with them as a volunteer. He has always been interested in agriculture and cattle raising and constantly takes steps to ensure better living conditions for the animals. He has also submitted a research paper on morning biomass-based animal feed with the help of scientists from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Giriraj Singh belonged to the Bhoomiha Brahmin family. He was born to Ramaftar Singh and Tara Devi. He has a brother, Jairaj Singh. Little is known about his family. His wife is Uma Sinha (retired teacher). They have a daughter.
political career
Giriraj Singh was elected as MLC from Bihar Legislative Council in 2002. In 2005, he was appointed Minister for Cooperation in Bihar by the Nitish Kumar government. In 2010, Singh was appointed Minister of Livestock and Fisheries Resources Development of Bihar. In June 2013, he was removed from the post of Animal Husbandry Minister as the Janata Dal (JDU) severed its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Eleven BJP members were removed from ministerial posts following the collapse of the alliance.
In 2013, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced him as its candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Nawada constituency in Bihar. Giriraj Singh was not happy with Navada announcing his name; as he wanted to compete with Begusarai. He won the election and was elected as Member of Parliament from Nawada, Bihar. On September 4, 2017, he was appointed Federal Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
In 2018, the Bharatiya Janata Party announced Giriraj Singh as its Lok Sabha candidate from Begusarai constituency in Bihar. He is all set to compete against Kanhaiya Kumar. Giriraj won the election by a margin of 420,000 votes. He was elected to the 17th Lok Sabha and served as a cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi government.
He contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai constituency in Bihar and won by 81,480 votes defeating rival Awdhesh Rai of the Communist Party of India (CPI).

- During the campaign before the 2014 elections, Singh told a rally that all those who opposed Narendra Modi should be sent to Pakistan as they did not belong to India. The BJP asked him not to make such remarks in future.
- On July 8, 2014, Giriraj reported to the police that his home had been burgled. 50,000. The police caught the thief and recovered jewellery, cash and other luxury goods worth Rs. 1.14 Crores. This raised a lot of questions because, according to his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he claimed cash and jewelery worth Rs 1.14 Cr. Several leaders of the Bihar Assembly expressed concern and demanded that Giriraj Singh be investigated and suspended.
- On March 30, 2015, a video of him and his friends in a closed environment appeared online, causing huge controversy. His remarks were met with much criticism. He has been accused of racism and sexism. After the incident broke out, Giriraj Singh had to apologize in Parliament. The Congress party demanded his resignation and an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the video, he said——

- In April 2016, he said population control was a big problem and something should be done. He said people of all religions should have the same number of children to curb population growth. In October 2016, he said India’s Muslim population was growing rapidly and Hindus should have more children to solve the problem. He said the rapid growth of the Muslim population posed a threat to India and had to be dealt with.
- On June 4, 2019, Nitish Kumar organized an iftar party at the mosque. Giriraj Singh tweeted about the Iftar party, saying:

- In September 2024, he made headlines for saying that all illegally built mosques in India must be demolished by the government. He further revealed that a plan is being drawn up to settle Muslims in Hindu-majority areas.

- In 2013, Giriraj Singh was announced as the Lok Sabha candidate for the 2014 elections from Nawada in Bihar. He reportedly went to Rajnath Singh’s house and cried, pleading with him to change his ticket from Bihar’s Nawada constituency to Bihar’s Begusarai. Rajnath Singh did not change his decision and Giriraj eventually won from the seat.
- He has often made controversial statements that have embarrassed the BJP. Despite repeated warnings from the BJP leadership and Amit Shah, he continued to make such statements.
