After graduating from graduate school, Girish Vargh joined Tata Motors in 1993 at the age of 23. Soon, he became a part of the Tata India vehicle development team. After the project was completed, Tata India vehicles sold well, and Ravi Kant, then Managing Director of Tata Motors, selected him to design and produce a small commercial vehicle. After intense brainstorming and hard work, the final product, Tata Ace, was born, which sold well in the Indian commercial vehicle market. After the project was completed, Ratan Tata and Ravi Kant decided to give Girish Vargh a team of 500 people and asked him to build a car priced under 100,000 rupees and meet all regulatory requirements. The project took three years and in 2008, the Tata Nano became the final product. Girish proved his value to the company by continuously delivering outstanding projects, and soon he was appointed as the head of the commercial vehicle business unit.

- While developing the Tata Nano, Girish and his team took the M-800 as the concept and designed all the details of the car themselves as they had just received the final budget for the car, which was to build a car with a price tag of just over Rs 1 lakh.
