Freddie Sayers News

An anti-devolution commentator was referred to as “wise” by a Sky News broadcaster. The Covid-19 pandemic was addressed by autonomous administrations that were able to formulate their own policies, according to Freddie Sayers, executive editor of UnHerd. As Mr. Sayers warned his audience, “we should be careful not to feed the beast” by giving the devolved states more autonomy over their own laws. Presenter Colin Brazier of Sky News referred to these as “wise words.”

The comments were made on The View during a debate about how Boris Johnson could be able to reject a Scottish independence vote with a “no but” qualification. We really reported on UnHerd about this, according to Mr Sayers. There is significant disagreement within the government as to how the second referendum should be handled in Scotland. Some believe that giving more in the way of devolution will satisfy those demands, while others believe that taking a harder line and essentially saying “no” will suffice.

“Personaly, I probably favour the harder line because if we’ve learned anything from the past ten years, it’s that if you give an inch, institutions grow and will want to acquire more and more power, and the experience we had over Covid, with the devolved administrations all vying for political gain and having very slightly different politics from England, has not been a sight to behold. I think actually we should be careful not to feed the beast.”
