Girl, 4, and boy, 9, among 3 killed after car crashes with lorry on A5 in Hinckley

A FOUR-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy are among three people killed after a car collided with a lorry in Leicestershire.

A man also died following a collision on the A5 in Hinckley on Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the area near Burbage at 4.24pm to reports of a collision involving a silver BMW and a lorry.

West Midlands Ambulance Service, East Midlands Ambulance Service and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

Sadly, the driver of the car – a man in his 30s – and a nine-year-old boy who was traveling as a passenger in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 30-year-old woman and a four-year-old girl traveling in the car were transported to the hospital.

The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after.

The woman is currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver was not seriously injured.

The road remained closed in the area while emergency services were on the scene.

The road was reopened today around 12:25 p.m.

Officials continue with the investigation in order to determine all the circumstances of the event.

Detective Constable Anna Andrew, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an extremely sad and tragic incident and our thoughts remain with those who lost their lives, their families and others involved and affected.

“Emergency services were at the scene and we know members of the public also helped at the scene when the accident happened – thank you to everyone who responded and helped in these devastating and extremely distressing circumstances.

“We continue to offer our full support to the families of the people involved and to investigate the accident to establish all the circumstances surrounding what happened.”

Police also urged anyone with information to come forward.
