Glen Powell Shoots Down Rumor He's Replacing Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible: 'Mom Would Never Let Me Do That'

No, Glen Powell is not the next super spy Ethan Hunt.

Following reports that Tom Cruise, star of The Mission: Impossible movie franchise, reportedly wanted Powell, 36, to take over its leadership, the Twisters the star denied the rumours.

I’m calling Powell to congratulate him live during The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Nov. 12, ESPN anchor Pat McAfee read aloud a headline from @TheInsneider on Xu (formerly Twitter): “Tom Cruise reportedly wants Glen Powell to replace him and lead the ‘MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE’ franchise in potential future sequels . ”

Powell immediately denied the claim, joking to McAfee, 37, “My mom would never let me do that.”

Mentioning the dangerous stunts that Cruise, 62, has performed in seven action movies, he laughed and added: “It’s a death trap.”

Powell’s mother Cyndy appeared in cameos in her son’s films, playing a spy Spy children 3lunch lady Everyone wants some!! and professor at Jack & Bobby. Joining Powell to ride motorcycles off cliffs or cling to the outside of a moving plane doesn’t seem to be on their horizon.

The Hit Man the actor has starred alongside Cruise in the past, playing a rival pilot in the 2022 hit. Top Gun: Maverick. They are set to reunite in the upcoming sequel, which was confirmed by producer Jerry Bruckheimer earlier this year.

During the July episode of the series Happy Sad Confused podcast with your Twisters actress Daisy Edgar-Jones, Powell suggested he knew when filming would begin Top Gun 3. “I mean, I have a date,” he said when the audience can expect the upcoming project.

Powell answered McAfee’s call from the set of his next project, directed by Edgar Wright The running man. While filming the action remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 film, the actor will pursue distance learning to finish college at the University of Texas at Austin, he told IndieWire in July.
