“The NHS at its best.

“I realize there are immense pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated.”

Richard’s followers rushed to wish him well and a speedy recovery, hoping that he will be back on TV soon.

Laura Tobin, who also works on GMB, commented: “Take care x”

While one fan wrote: “Oh God Richard!! I really hope you are well and get well soon!”

And someone else added: “All the best Richard. Hope for a speedy recovery.”

He has a legion of fans after working on television for over 20 years, starting in 2000.

He joined GMB in 2014, having previously worked for GMTV and Daybreak.

Viewers were very worried about him as he was forced to take cover in the middle of the broadcast.

A year earlier, he admitted that his “brain froze” during a report after stumbling over his words.

The reporter said he “lost the thread” after working all night to cover President Joe Biden’s inauguration.

He began reporting on the changes the new president would make before pausing to say, “And it’s also going to prevent people from, um… I’m sorry, I’ve completely lost the thread.

“I’m sorry.”

He had the sympathy of his UK studio colleagues when Piers Morgan told him to “go back to bed” and Susanna Reid said: “This is an important occasion; President Trump is gone, Joe Biden is here – and Richard Gaisford needs to go lie down!”

Richard later tweeted: “Thanks for all the kind messages – it’s only when you screw up that you realize how kind people can be. Total brain freeze

“@GMB. I’ll melt it by tomorrow. I promise. X”
