Good Trouble Series Finale: How the Fosters Spinoff Ended Its Heartwarming ‘Journey’

After five seasons, residents of Freeform’s Good trouble spent their last night at the Coterie.

But, as any fan knows, this wasn’t just the end of five seasons; it was the end of more than 10 years with Callie and Mariana Adams Foster (Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez), as the pair helmed the spinoff film The Fosterswhich premiered in June 2013.

When Good troubleThe cancellation was announced, filming for the season wrapped, but the network allowed them to return to the set and film a few extra scenes so that everything could end with a bow in the 90-minute series finale.

And, no, that bow wasn’t glued to the back of Callie’s wedding dress. Her wedding to Jamie (Beau Mirchoff) will have to live on in fans’ imaginations. At least their joy was shared earlier in the season with the return of moms Lena and Stef (Sherri Saum and Teri Polo) and their brothers Jude (Hayden Byerly) and Brandon (David Lambert) to the touching engagement party shown earlier in the season.

Here’s what did happen in the series finale — and where the beloved characters are headed.

Alice (Sherry Cola) receives a phone call that the landlord is selling the building and the tenants have three months to move out. And, three months later, the tenants gathered for the last family dinner.

After bringing her women’s shelter back into play, Malika (Zuri Adele) has announced that she is running for city council herself. Three months later, the campaign is going well, and her girlfriend Angelica (Yasmine Aker) is quick to declare that she has won in the polls.

Alice was offered a series regular role in the sitcom when she submitted her reel to be considered for the lead role. America’s Funniest Ferrets and Friends — but she refused to protect her colleagues. And it all worked out: the sitcom was quickly canceled and now Alice is the host AFF&F.

As for her and Sumi (Kara Wang), they bought a house together and invited everyone to gather there in the future.

Gael (Tommy Martinez) turned down an opportunity to apprentice with a respected artist and decided to focus more on his street art. He just got a contract to do a mural in downtown LA. “We’ve always believed in you,” Davia said. Callie added, “It’s nice to see you believe in yourself.”

Earlier in the episode, playwright Ethan (Miguel Pinzon) remembered that Davia (Emma Hunton) was his muse and begged her to come back to a staged reading of his musical under the guise that Serena was sick. And then he told her why she was actually there – because she’s a star, dammit! — and ruined the performance!

Speaking of the restaurant, Luca (Booboo Stewart) has resolved his immigration situation and his love triangle – he chose Ladle (Tetona Jackson) – and his dancing career is on the rise. Going on tour with Olivia Rodrigo!

Mariana and Joaquin (Bryan Craig) finally ended all the drama with Silas when they got a call from Jenna (Maiara Walsh) that the cult leader was about to dig up Madison’s body and move it. Two dinghies went to film it and were caught. Joaquin and Silas got into a fight, Mariana broke it up by punching Silas, then Silas almost killed them both with a shovel, but Jenna showed up and shot Silas.
