Gordon Ramsay Says He’s ‘Lucky to Be Here’ After ‘Really Bad’ Bicycling Accident: My Helmet ‘Saved My Life’

Gordon Ramsay says he is happy to be up and walking after his serious bike accident.

The Master chef star, 57, revealed in an Instagram post on Saturday, June 15, that the accident happened earlier this week while he was riding his bike in Connecticut.

Noting that the incident “really shook me up” and that he was admitted to hospital for treatment, Ramsay said: “Honestly, I’m happy to be here.”

“I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week,” he added as he lifted his chef’s jacket to reveal his badly bruised ribs. “And I’m kind of getting through it. But I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

In his caption, Ramsay explained that while he hadn’t “broken any bones or suffered any major injuries”, he was “bruised a bit and looked like a purple potato”.

Ramsay then reiterated that he was “grateful” he was wearing a helmet during the crash, as it “saved my life”.

“I don’t care how short the trip is. I don’t care, you know, the fact that those helmets cost money … they’re key,” he said. “Even with children, a short trip, they have to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay concluded his video and caption by wishing families a “great” and “safe” Father’s Day.
