Gordon Ramsay’s Daughter Tilly Talks Carpooling Home with Her Dad After Filming MasterChef Junior Together

Gordon Ramsay and his daughter Matilda “Tilly” Ramsay are bringing their goofy relationship to the small screen.

The duo will appear on MasterChef Junior, which returns Monday night. In the 9th season of the FOX cooking competition, Tilly (22) joins for the first time as a permanent judge. Gordon continues to host, with Aarón Sánchez and Daphne Oz returning as judges.

The father-of-six – who also shares Megan, 25, twins Jack and Holly, 24, Oscar, 4, and Jesse, 3 months, with his wife Tana – has hosted the competition series since it premiered in 2013, so he was able to show his daughter ropes, according to Tilly.

“We laugh, he makes me laugh all the time,” she tells PEOPLE of their time together on set. “We annoy each other, don’t get me wrong. We joke around all the time.”

This is not the first time the pair have shared a set. Tilly has been recording with Gordon for years as a guest on his many shows, e.g Hell’s kitchen and The F word. But by recording the whole season MasterChef Junior together they experienced what it’s like to be co-workers in a completely new way.

“We would travel home together,” says Tilly, who posted Download Tilly’s Kitchen cookbook when she was 15. “The car trips home in the evening were wonderful. We would just talk about everything about the day. It’s just so nice to work with him, to spend that time together.”

On MasterChef Junior, amateur chefs between the ages of 8 and 13 test their skills in a series of culinary challenges for a prize of $100,000.

“I grew up watching him go to work in the morning and come home in the afternoon and I’d always say, ‘Oh, what did they cook today? What did you try? How was this? How was that?’ Now I’m actually doing it with him and living those stories he told me and getting to know the kids the way he experiences it is really great,” adds Tilly.

The psychology student is a natural in front of the cameras. From 2015 to 2019, Tilly had her own cooking reality show, Matilda and the Ramsay group, on CBBC. She competed in a British competition show Strictly Come Dancing back in 2021. That same year, Tilly was a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef Australia. Now she is happy to be on the judging side of the show.

Aarón Sánchez says he’s ‘amazed’ by ‘MasterChef Junior’ talent: ‘So much potential’

“Being on the other side of that was such a relief,” he laughs. “I like being a judge. I feel like I’m constantly learning from the kids, from the other referees, just from everyone around me.”

Tilly says it was difficult to send any of the young contestants home, especially as someone who has loved cooking since childhood.

“That was especially hard for me because you just want the kids to know that it doesn’t mean this dream is over. But even though it was emotional, there were also happy emotions and the kids were always so grateful to be there at all,” she says, “which was really great to see.”
