Every time Carol Chapman buys a coffee, the 81-year-old records a video of her trying it and posts it on TikTok. Last week was no different.
After Chapman, who goes by the name Grandma C on TikTok, went to Dunkin’ and bought a new drink — Sabrine Carpenter’s Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso — she got into her car to review the creation. According to Dunkin’, the singer’s Brown Sugar Shakin’ Espresso is a limited-time, handcrafted iced beverage that combines Dunkin’s espresso, notes of brown sugar and oat milk.
But during her review, Chapman revealed something else: When she bought Carpenter’s drink, she had no idea who Carpenter, 25, was.
“When I first tried it, I was just tasting coffee on its own, nothing with Sabrina,” the Raleigh, NC resident tells PEOPLE exclusively. – I didn’t know that her song was a reason to drink.
“I was honest with my audience, telling them I didn’t know who Sabrina was, but I was going to find out,” adds Chapman.
That’s it her Espresso! Sabrina Carpenter collaborates with Dunkin’ for a new ice drink
In the end, Chapman posted the video on her TikTok account without thinking much of it. She then began receiving texts and calls from her family, telling her that her video had gone viral, garnering more than 900,000 views and 1,100 comments.
After hearing that, Chapman felt “thrilled,” she shares. She was even happier when she saw that Carpenter herself commented on the video.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Chapman tells PEOPLE. – Then all my granddaughters called and sent messages, so I realized that it was true.
“I love you Grandma C 💋”, commented the “Espresa” singer.
“I love you ❤️❤️,” Chapman replied.

This song surpassed Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ as the most streamed song on Spotify in the last minute of 2024.
Since then, Chapman took the opportunity to learn more about the singer and why Dunkin’ chose to partner with her.
“I first learned about the song ‘Espresso,'” she says. “Then I listened to it. Then on the next TikTok I told people who she was and I said the song makes me happy and makes me feel good.”
“I listened to all the songs I could find on Alexa,” she adds. “On Saturday night I was looking on Netflix for something to watch and her Christmas special came up, so I watched it.”
“I really like her as a singer now and if she ever comes around I’d love to see her,” Chapman continues.
