Bittersweet news for Grantchester fans! It has been revealed that Tom Brittney will be leaving the hit ITV series after six seasons, with the ninth being the star’s final.
The actor, who took on the lead role from James Norton in 2019, released a statement about his time on the show, saying, “I had a great time playing Will Davenport in the past 5 years.

“I had to solve the case with my best friend and work with the best cast and crew I could ask for. I’ll miss that more than anything. But it’s time to switch batons. cui, as it has been for me, and I am delighted that Rishi has joined the Grantchester family.”
Tom leaves the show
Tom will be replaced by former Hollyoaks star Rishi Nair, who plays a character named Alphy. Speaking of joining Robson Green as the new host of the much-loved show, Rishi said: “I’m so excited to be joining Grantchester. The welcome and support I’ve received from everyone has been my pleasure. That’s so great.

James, who played Pastor Sidney Chambers, left the show after the third season and said his departure was due to “a combination of things”. He continued: “Amanda’s story connected with her and Sidney’s breakup and his choice of church in season three feels like a natural ending to Sidney’s story.
“It’s been an honor to play such a wonderful character, but I feel there are other pastors, other conflicting souls to explore. So it’s time to introduce Tom Brittney as Reverend Will. Davenport.”
