Sameer’s debut film was Nirmala Machindra Kamble (1999). In a Marathi film, he played Shyamrao “Guruji” Kamble. He got his breakthrough in the Hindi film Satta (2003) directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, in which he played the lead role of Vivek Chauhan alongside Raveena Tandon. For this film, he was nominated for the Zee Cine Awards for Best New Actor.
In 2007, Sameer played the lead role of Shekhar in the Marathi film Nirop, directed by Sachin Kundalkar and produced by Aparna Damadhikari (Samir’s wife). ); the film won the Best Marathi Feature Film Award at the 55th National Film Awards.
