Grantchester’s Rishi Nair shares exciting update on series nine after joining the cast

Granchester newcomer Rishi Nair has officially started filming the ninth season of the detective series. The actor took to Instagram on Tuesday to share photos from his trailer to celebrate the first week of filming, and judging by the flowers and cards on his desk, the actor has received a lot of congratulations for his new role.

Set to play the charismatic vicar, Alphy Kotteram, the character has “an instinctive distrust of authority and a complete reluctance to participate in murder investigations,” according to the PBS website. “But Alphy and Geordie will discover that they have more in common than they first thought, and Alphy will discover that in Grantchester, murder is never far away.”

In the first day of this month, alum Grantchester Tom Brittney – also known as Pastor Will Davenport – has confirmed that he will be stepping down from his role on the show after season nine. Giving an official statement, he said: “I’ve had a great time playing Will Davenport for the past 5 years.

“I got to solve the case with my best friend and work with the best cast and crew I could ever wish for. I’ll miss that more than anything. But it’s time to move on. power, as it was for me, and I’m delighted Rishi has joined the Grantchester family.”

After the news, Rishi said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Grantchester. The welcome and support I have received from everyone has been tremendous.”

The 32-year-old continued: “The success of the show and the reason we’re here for the ninth season is testament to everyone who’s worked on it before. I’m really excited to start and can’t wait for Grantchester fans to meet Alphy and see what awaits him.”

DI actor Geordie Keating Robson Green also addressed the change, explaining that while there was “a bit of sadness” in the midst of Tom’s departure, he was “delighted” to welcome “Rishi Nair immensely” talent to the Grantchester family!”

Already a familiar face on TV, Rishi has acted in movies Treachery (2022), Brian and Charles (2022), White pearl (2022) and Count Abdulla (2023). He is also known for playing Sami Maalik in Hollyoaks from 2017 to 2021.

So what’s in store for Tom Brittney now that he’s leaving the show? As it turns out, the 32-year-old will be appearing in a Hollywood movie filled with big A-list names; Netflix’s upcoming action comedy, back to work.

The new film features an all-star cast, including Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, as well as Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott and Jamie Demetriou. For now, the streaming platform has yet to confirm a release date, but we couldn’t be more excited!
