Grey's Anatomy Star Kevin McKidd Announces the Death of His Father: 'Grateful for the Years of Love and Laughter'

Kevin McKidd mourns the loss of his father Neil.

The Grey’s Anatomy star, 51, shared an emotional tribute to his late dad on social media on Oct. 24, alongside several pictures of him over the years.

“Today I am heartbroken but grateful for the years of love and laughter we all had together,” he wrote. “Thank you for making mom happy for the 56 years you both spent together. I love you dad, always.”

The post included a shot of his father smiling for the camera, a black and white photo of his parents together and his father sitting in the garden. The last picture shows McKidd wearing a kilt alongside Neil and his mother Kathleen.

McKidd’s Grey’s Anatomy costars shared their condolences in the comments section.

“Thoughts and prayers for you and your entire family,” Jason George said.

Anthony Hill added, “We love you Kev 🙏🏾❤️”

Two months before his death, McKidd celebrated his father’s birthday on social media, writing: “This guy… happy birthday dad!”

In 2021, the actor also shared a sweet video of his parents dancing together.

“MOM and DAD! Everyone look at my wonderful mom and dad. That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day #Elgin #Scottishparents my brother Steve video I love you Stevie xxx”

McKidd in 2009 in an interview for Scot.

“I started acting when I was very young and I realized very quickly that this is what I wanted to do,” he said at the time. “No one else in my family is an actor, in fact I’m the first to be involved in the arts, but mum and dad were very supportive, even if they didn’t understand what it was.”
