Grey's Anatomy's Camilla Luddington Teases Jo Be Will Be Stuck in 'Her Own Tornado of Emotions and Hormones' (Exclusive)

This post contains spoilers from the Thursday, September 26 episode Grey’s Anatomy.

Camilla Luddington teases that it won’t be smooth sailing for Jo and Link after revealing her pregnancy in the Season 21 premiere Grey’s Anatomy.

On the Sept. 26 episode of the hit ABC medical drama, Jo admitted she panicked when she told her boyfriend Link (Chris Carmack) she was pregnant, while her friend Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) nearly spilled the glass twice during the episode.

However, Link soon realized that she was actually pregnant after refusing the fries and wine. Of course, he was delighted with the news and the couple embraced emotionally.

Now, Luddington, 40, tells PEOPLE that things are getting “a little more challenging” for the couple as “more news comes out” about the pregnancy.

She notes that viewers should be prepared for anything pregnancy-related “to be wrapped up in a nice, sweet bow soon enough.”

In addition to the baby news, the hospital is also dealing with the fallout from the resignation of Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo) and the firing of Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) after Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) revealed secret Alzheimer’s research at the end of season 20.

However, Luddington notes that the story “ends up like a storm apart” from Jo in season 21 Grey’s Anatomy.

“I think she’s caught up in her own tornado of emotions and hormones and things related to navigating family and extended family,” he shares. “I think she actually lies in that situation. But you definitely see those things really affect other characters in the show.”

After firing some of Gray Sloan's best, Catherine continues to interfere with Meredith and Amelia's investigation. Accidents at a climate change protest bring unique cases to the hospital, and Bailey encounters a blast from the past.

Luddington — who hosts an advice podcast Call it what it is with her former co-star Jessica Capshaw — also shared what words of wisdom she would give her character as she continues to navigate her pregnancy throughout the season.

“I think she needs to be kinder to herself as a mom,” she says. “And I really believe in the village that everyone needs. And I don’t think I understood what that meant until I had children. I think she needs more help.”

“And so I would advise her to reach out for extra help whether that means having someone help do… Whatever that means for her in her day-to-day life to just help her feel more present and less stressed, I think that,” she adds.
