Will Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) finally live happily ever after with his new love James (Michael Thomas Grant) on Grey’s Anatomy?
In last week’s episode Grey’s AnatomySchmitt decided to move to Texas as a pediatric researcher, despite being offered a position at Gray Sloan. He told Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) that he followed his heart by going to the Lone Star State, saying, “I love the ups and downs and the stupid things they say, and that when I save a child, I don’t just save life, I save all life.”
However, the decision left his future with James up in the air as his new girlfriend has roots in Seattle. After struggling to break the news to his friend Taryn Helm (Jaicy Elliot), she replies: “Think how hard it will be to tell James.”

Borelli, who has played Schmitt since Season 14 of the ABC medical drama, tells PEOPLE that the Nov. 14 episode will follow with “a pretty big bombshell about how Taryn was worried about Levi’s relationship and how James is going to react to this.”
“We’re going to find out what that really means for them and whether or not they’re ready to take such a big vulnerable leap in such an early relationship,” Borelli, 33, teases.
The actor — who came out as gay in an Instagram post in November 2018 — shares why the story is especially important to him.
“I’m excited to see it happen with two queer men,” he says. “I think it’s a moment we don’t see enough on television.”

However, Borelli knows that Schmitt is also facing another difficult conversation with Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington).
“It’s also a big thing that we haven’t seen him talk to Jo yet, so I’m really interested to see what that entails,” he teases.
Asked how he hopes the conversation ends, Borelli says, “I hope she’s not mad at me.”

“I mean, Jo and Levi’s friendship reflects a lot as well [of] me and Camilla’s friendship,” he explains. “And I know that filming the episode was very difficult for the two of us to face those ideas of goodbye, especially while we were processing it ourselves.”
“That’s why I’m very interested to see how the episode turns out because I know it was a difficult day for both of us,” he adds.
