Gufran (1996-2023) was an Indian chronicler involved in various criminal activities such as fraud, murder, extortion and robbery. He was a gang leader who carried out criminal activities across Uttar Pradesh. He was shot dead on June 27, 2023, during an encounter by the Special Task Force (STF) in Uttar Pradesh.

Criminal record
In 2023, Gufran’s name was involved in 13 criminal cases, including seven murders, attempted murders and robberies. Gufran and his gang carried out criminal activities in Pratapgarh and Sultanpur districts of Uttar Pradesh for many years. Some of his gang members were jailed. He is also supposedly linked to the IS-227 Ateeq gang. On April 24, 2023, Gufran shot and robbed “Saresham Jeweler” in Pratapgarh. Some of his other criminal cases include:

On May 15, 2023, a young man named Tanveer was killed near the Mahuar village cemetery under the jurisdiction of Kotwali Nagar police station. Pratapgarh police chief Satpal Antill formed a team to arrest those responsible for the incident. Eventually, the police arrested four members of Gufran’s gang, while Gufran himself managed to escape due to geographical reasons. The police recovered a total of Rs 1.5 lakh in connection with various robbery cases, as well as two mobile phones belonging to the gang members, three mobile phones belonging to the accused, an illegal 0.32 caliber pistol loaded with two live bullets, an illegal pistol loaded with one live bullet .315 caliber pistol, and another .315 caliber pistol.
Gufran gang members arrested by Uttar Pradesh police
During the interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they were members of the gang led by Gufran, but Gufran had successfully escaped. They confessed to their involvement in crimes such as theft and robbery, and used the money earned to pay for daily expenses. They even planned to rob a petrol pump before being arrested. When asked about the money and guns in their possession, they revealed that Gufran and some other gang members shot Tanvir. The motive behind the murder was that the deceased’s future wife was a close friend of one of the defendants, who was unhappy with the news of their impending marriage.
Larta Sharma murder case
On September 1, 2023, Gufran and his gang members committed the murder. They killed a man named Tantrik Lalta Prasad. Local police said a man named Anil Kumar Mishra from Balipur allegedly hired a hit man to get rid of Lalta Sharma. Mishra was tired of Sharma constantly asking for more money. Misra had previously asked Sharma to help treat his wife, who had been unwell for many years. Misra claimed that he had paid Larta’s exorcist enough money, but the exorcist kept asking for more, even though his wife’s condition was not improving. Mishra also claimed that the exorcist had ill intentions towards his wife and would visit their home without invitation. During police interrogation, Mishra admitted that he hatched the plan to eliminate the exorcist. He contacted a hitman named Shahzad Alam, also known as Bhaiya. Alam demanded Rs 2.5 lakh for the murder and Mishra paid him Rs 50,000 in advance. Police revealed that Alam and four of his accomplices had originally planned to kill Sharma in Rakshabandhan but changed their minds when they saw many visitors at his house. Later, Gufran went to Sharma’s house pretending that he needed treatment for his sick brother. However, Lalta Sharma refused to go with him saying he had to go to Mumbai for work. On September 1, 2023, all four hired killers returned to Sharma’s home. Gufran persuaded Sharma to go with him on his motorcycle on the pretext of further treatment. Eventually, Gutfreund shot Sharma near the canal, killing him. In June 2023, a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for the arrest of Gufran, which was later increased to Rs 100,000 on June 24, 2023. The local police reported that a robbery took place in Pratapgarh on April 24, 2023. CCTV footage captured Gufran robbing the store during the incident. As a result, Prayagraj police has offered a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to Gufran’s arrest, while Sultanpur police has offered a reward of Rs 25,000.

On June 27, 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Police met Gufran at Kokhraj, a village in Sirathu block of Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh. The encounter took place around 5:00 am during an operation conducted by the Special Task Force (STF). According to STF Additional Director General Amitabh Yash, Gufran sustained gunshot injuries during a confrontation and retaliatory firing that took place during the crossfire. The STF team surrounded the Samuda Sugar Factory when Gufran opened fire. The two sides exchanged fire for about 20 minutes. During the confrontation, Gutfreund was shot in the jaw and fell to the ground. He was immediately rushed to hospital where doctors declared him dead at around 6am. As part of the operation, the STF team recovered a 9 mm carbine and a .32 caliber pistol from Gufran’s possession. The local police said in an interview with the media,
We were trying to track him (gangster Gutfreund) for a while. When we reached Kaushambi and arrested him, he opened fire and we retaliated. He was shot in the shooting and taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. “
STF CO DK Shahi said they received intelligence that Gufran was present near the toll plaza in Kokhraj area. The STF team started encircling the Kokhraj area at 4:40 am. After noticing the police presence, Gufran tried to escape towards Manjanpur on his Apache motorcycle. The STF pursue him in a chase.
