Gurmeet Singh Khudian was born in Vill on Sunday, September 30, 1962 (age 60 years; as of 2022). & PO Khudian, Gulab Singh, Tehsil-Muktsar, Punjab. He completed his studies in Govt. High School, Khudian Gulab Singh, PSEB. He received his higher education at DAV College in Malout. His father had long been associated with the Congress party, and so he had long worked closely with the Congress party. He officially joined the Indian National Congress in 2004. His constant work and efforts led him to become the Chairman of the District Congress Committee Muktsar, which he held for five years. In 2017, he planned to contest the Punjab Assembly elections from Lambi constituency; however, captain Amarinder Singh decided to contest at the last minute. He has the opportunity to fill the nomination for coverage candidates. He emerged as a strong contender for the chairmanship of the Congress government in Punjab.

Later, he was succeeded by Harcharan Singh ‘Sotha’ Brar as Chairman of the District Congress Committee. Even after more than two decades working in the Lambie constituency, he was not given a party ticket. On July 26, 2021, he and some loyal colleagues announced that they were leaving the Congress party because they had been ignored by the Congress party for too long. On the same day, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

Later he said in an interview,
We took this step after feeling neglected for a long time. Even Captain Amarinder Singh did not visit this place even once after contesting the Lambi Assembly elections in 2017. No one heard our questions. “
He was announced as the candidate from Assembly constituency 83, Lambi, which was classified as a rural seat in the AAP’s second list for November. He won the seat in his first election with 66,313 votes. He defeated SAD patron and five-time former CM Parkash Singh Badal by a huge margin of 11,396 votes, while Badal came second with a total of 54,917 votes. Prominent figures in Lambi constituency include Jagpal Singh Abulkhurana (Congress), Gurmeet Singh Khudian (Aam Aadmi Party), Parkash Singh Badal (Shiromani Akali Dal – Bahujan Samaj Party alliance) and Rakesh Dhingra (BJP with former chief minister Amarinder) Alliance) Singh’s Punjabi Congress Party).
After winning by a huge margin, he said:
This is a victory for the people. Youth brings new Inquilab. People have been with me and supported me since day one. “
He added,
They have been running regular contests over the years and for the first time there are elections. Kejriwalji gave me the Lambi ticket because he knew I could play against Badal. “
While he was celebrating his glorious victory with family and friends in Dharna Mandi, he was asked in an interview about his opponents and he replied:
I don’t even want to remember Amarinder Singh, who believed in fighting a fixed contest and now lost by 13,000 votes. Let’s talk about today and now. This victory belongs to the people of Lambi who thought of Badalv and dared to let Badal senior lose. Badalji was lucky enough to serve as the chief minister of Punjab five times. I am a member of the PPP and I believe in clean politics. I believe now Akal purakh has blessed me too. “
On May 31, 2023, he was inducted into the Bhagwant Mann Cabinet as the Punjab Agriculture Minister in a cabinet reshuffle.

- Ahead of the Lambi polls, AAP’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Singh Mann visited the constituency and campaigned with Gurmeet Singh. He said Badal was greedy for power and during his 10-year rule in Punjab, Kudyan’s family and the people of Lambi had to face atrocities and corruption. He added that despite this, the Khudian family has always stood by the people of Punjab and this time the people of Lambi will teach the Badal family a lesson.
Bhagwant Mann campaigned with and for Gurmeet Singh
- Gurmeet’s father, Jathedar Jagdev Singh Khuddian, went missing from his home a day after he was sworn in as an MP. His body was pulled from the nearby Rajasthan Feeder Canal about six days later. Police described the incident as a suicide; however, the damage found on Khudian’s intestines was premortem and could have resulted in death, and it was revealed that he did not suffer from depression. The judge in the case ruled out suicide, saying:
I think he was killed.”
