Kalvakuntla Kavitha was born on Monday, March 13, 1978 (age 46; as of 2023) in Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). She attended Stanley Girls High School in Hyderabad. She pursued her bachelor’s degree in CSE from VNR Vignana Jyothi College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, and received her master’s degree in science from the University of Southern Mississippi.

In 2003, she moved to the United States with her husband, where she worked as a software engineer. In 2006, she returned to India to serve the people of Telangana. In 2006, when her father resigned from the federal cabinet over the central government’s failure to fulfill its promise to help form Telangana, she joined his movement. She visited most of the remote villages in Telangana to understand the issues affecting people. She learned about the extent of poverty, lack of basic needs like electricity, drinking and irrigation water, and unemployment. She also understood that the people of Telangana have a great love and passion for indigenous art and culture, so she believed that by celebrating the festival, she could bring together all sections of society. She celebrated Batukamma festival on a grand scale where people from different classes came together. Bathukamma is now celebrated in more than 30 countries. She decided to work for the welfare of the people of the state and formed the Telangana Jagruthi Party in August 2006.

Telangana Jagruthi was established in 2006 but registered in November 2007. In an interview, she explained the meaning of the party name and said that the meaning of Jagruthi is awakening and the focus is to awaken the Telangana society to be proud of their country and be proud of their country. Keeping unity, the word Jagruthi focuses on bringing together the women and youth of Telangana. The party contributed significantly to winning the support of women and youth for the peaceful non-violent Telangana movement. In October 2020, she was elected to the Legislative Council from Nizamabad local authority constituency. She won 727 out of 823 votes cast. In 2021, she was re-elected to the Telangana Legislative Council from Nizamabad local authority constituency in the biennial polls. She was sworn in as MLC on January 19, 2022. In 2015, she served as a Member of Parliament on the Budget Committee, Standing Committee on Commerce and Advisory Committees of Ministry of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. She has also been nominated to the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) India regional steering committee, which works to bring more female representation to Parliament.
