Gwen Stefani Admits She’ll Have to Relearn Old No Doubt Songs for Coachella Set: ‘I Don’t Remember Them!’

Gwen Stefani’s No Doubt reunion at Coachella will be a blast from the past for the star.

The “Cool” singer opened up about the group’s upcoming festival Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday night, and revealed that while the group hasn’t started rehearsing yet, she already knows she might have to re-learn the words to some older hits.

“I don’t remember them, no, I don’t remember them at all. Not me! I think I’ll have to learn probably around eight or nine [songs]. One of the first songs I ever wrote was called ‘Different People;’ we do,” Stefani, 54, told Kimmel.

At which point she quickly put her hand over her mouth, feigning shock and saying “I shouldn’t—” as the crowd cheered along to the 1995 song, which is on the band’s third album. A tragic kingdom.

“We could do it,” Stefani said. “I’ll have to make them sing for us!”

Gwen Stefani Talks ‘Amazing’ No Doubt Coachella Reunion: ‘Being Here in 2024… That’s Behind’ (Exclusive)

No Doubt — which includes Stefani on vocals, Tom Dumont on guitar, Tony Kanal on bass and Adrian Young on drums — last reunited in 2012 for an album Push and push, their first in 11 years. The last time they performed live together was in 2015.

“It’s crazy,” Stefani said of their reunion. “It will be amazing. I am so excited. And I think what’s going to be hilarious is going to be funny, I know what’s going to happen, I’m going to go on stage and look around and just start shooting because it’s going to be like riding a bike. We will ask ourselves: ‘What are we doing?’ Right now we’re in the future, we’re at Coachella.’ It will be bizarre.”

The “Purple Irises” singer also joked that she called festival organizers and asked if they had any trellises available for her to climb on, like she did during her performance at the time.

“They don’t have bars, I already asked about that!” she told the late-night host, 56. “I would do it! I would start doing my squats today and prepare for it.”

Stefani, who is married to country star Blake Shelton, opened up to PEOPLE last month about her upcoming appearance at Coachella, revealing that agreeing to attend the festival was an easy “yes.”

“It just happened so fast and that’s my favorite thing that happened. We haven’t figured out the next steps of how we’re going to do this yet, but we’re all very excited,” she said. “And I think I’m just watching the internet explode [with] how excited are the fans? That inspires us.”

She continued: “It’s just going to be cool. It’s just going to be: get up there and do what we always do, which is play our music and try to connect and be so grateful that we got this amazing career that we never expected.”

Stefani and Shelton, 47, are currently celebrating the release of their new duet, “Purple Irises,” which the star told Kimmel she originally wrote just for herself.

After the “Ol’ Red” artist heard the demo, he praised the song, and his wife asked him to jump in.

“It ended up so I didn’t have to rewrite anything, it just worked,” she said. “It was just magical… The street we were shooting on was called Iris Street, so I thought, ‘What’s going on?’ Now we’re here, playing live.”
