Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s 3 Kids: All About Kingston, Zuma and Apollo

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are proud parents of three sons: Kingston (17), Zuma (15) and Apollo (9).

Although Stefani and Rossdale are no longer together — they split in 2015 after nearly 12 years of marriage, and Stefani has since married Blake Shelton — the former couple’s children came first.

During an interview with PEOPLE, Stefani, who revealed that she and all three of her boys have dyslexia, said she took a stricter approach to parenting than she ever expected.

“I’ve been in a band and free all my life, so I always thought I’d be really free with him [my kids]. But you learn that they feel safest when they have boundaries,” she said.

In 2020, Rossdale told PEOPLE that his sons inspire him to make the best music he can, if only to make them proud. “I don’t want them playing my records to their friends and saying, ‘What happened to my dad?’ ” said the Bush frontman. “I want them to be like, ‘My dad’s on fire.’ They inspire me because I want them to like what I do. They inspire me to be better.”

Stefani’s second husband, Shelton, whom she married in 2021, also helps raise the three boys.

“I have a stepfather in my life who is one of my heroes,” Shelton said during an interview with KFROG’s Riding with Kim and Heather. “I love my stepdad and I look up to him and he’s like a father to me, so I have a good inspiration in my life for how to do that and what kind of stepdad I want to be. And I take that very seriously.”

He added: “Now I can’t imagine my life without these children.”

In June 2023, Rossdale appeared on a podcast Not so Hollywood and shared that he and Stefani are “really different people” with two different parenting styles.

“I think you can go one of two ways — you can either do everything together and really co-parent and see how that goes, or you can just be parents. And I think we’re just parents,” he said. “I don’t think there’s a lot of similarity in the way we raise them, but I think it gives them an incredible perspective.”

A few months later, Kingston, Zuma and Apollo supported their mom at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

“The greatest gift of all is being a mom. You are my greatest blessing. I am so proud of you,” Stefani said during her speech.

Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, 17

Stefani and Rossdale’s first child, Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, was born on May 26, 2006, in Los Angeles. Now 17, Kingston is the spitting image of his father.

In May 2021, Rossdale celebrated Kingston’s birthday by sharing two photos of his son. He briefly captioned one post, “you are my best focus and inspiration – you’re smart, funny and kind with oceans of empathy – to me that’s all you need to make a mark – I couldn’t be more proud of you – and I love you more and more every day.”

Kingston has an Instagram account that mostly features selfies with his girlfriend, makeup artist Lola Albert, as well as some photos with his dad.

Stefani and Rossdale’s oldest child also took an interest in music. In 2020, Rossdale told PEOPLE, “We’re trying out all these different bands along with bands from his generation. Young kids making music now, that’s cool, but I said, ‘Why don’t we look at the beginning?’ See where it came from.’ He also noted that he introduced Kingston to classic punk bands such as the Sex Pistols and the Gang of Four.

“He’s just a joy because when he’s playing guitar, all he wants to do is wear my clothes,” Rossdale continued. “He’s generally better looking than me. Basically all three boys, all my kids, are just better versions of me. I gave them my strengths.”

In August 2023, Kingston made his first public appearance at Shelton’s Oklahoma bar, Ole Red.

“King wrote a bunch of amazing songs. When it’s your kid, it’s like you love everything, but this is the next level for me. These are really good songs,” Stefani told PEOPLE after the show. “I cried. It’s crazy when you have kids and they learn what their gift is.”

Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale, 15

Stefani and Rossdale’s second son, Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale, was born in Los Angeles on August 21, 2008.

When Zuma was just 3 years old, the “Hollaback Girl” singer described her son as having a great sense of humor. “[Zuma] he wants everyone to look at him and he’s a goofball and he’s really silly,” she said. “He’s a funny guy.” And as he grew up, the singer even referred to Zuma as her “twin.”

In July 2020, Rossdale said Zuma was the “toughest” of his three sons, revealing in an interview that his middle child had broken both arms within six weeks, one from a fall from a bicycle and the other from an accident at home.

“He really got into a fight. Which is bad enough except that two weeks ago, when we first got here . . . at four o’clock, he fell off a chair and broke his right arm. Now it’s just healed and [breaks] his left arm,” he said. “I bandaged him up this morning, but he’s so brave and he’s so strong … He’s a really tough kid. I’d be terrified if any of the other kids had to go through what he went through, because he’s by far the toughest.”

In August 2023, Stefani celebrated Zuma’s 15th birthday with a sweet Instagram post. She shared a photo montage of Zuma over the years, including snaps of her and the teenager smiling together.

“Happy 15th birthday Zuma!!! we love you more than anything 🩵🎉🎂,” she wrote in the description.

Apollo Bowie Flynn Rossdale, 9

Stefani and Gavin’s youngest son, Apollo Bowie Flynn Rossdale, was born on February 28, 2014 in Los Angeles.

As the youngest of three, Apollo was quickly welcomed by his older siblings. When Apollo was 9 months old, Rossdale revealed that Kingston and Zuma adored him, telling PEOPLE: “Apollo is so small that the older brothers love to protect him. They were so happy when he was born. They just love him. There’s no jealousy because they really cares about him.”

He started kindergarten in 2019, and Stefani told Party tonight at the time, “I just had a baby in daycare and it was devastating. But he’s so excited and doing so well.”

Rossdale is also the father of a grown daughter, Daisy Lowe, and in July 2022, the musician shared a photo of all four of his children that showed just how much Apollo has grown. “Welcome to my world,” he wrote. “The best few weeks at home with my better versions of me. Oh the joy they bring. and yes, the left one is down to chew. and our super hero Apollo. My love is truly the size of the ocean.”
