Profession
The birth of the book “Concepts of Physics”
In 1980, after completing his formal education, HC Verma joined Patna Science College as a lecturer. While working as a lecturer, HC Verma realized that students faced major problems in understanding simple physics concepts. He always wanted to bring an easy to understand version of the famous physics book Resnick & Halliday. As this version was not available in the market, Mr. Verma decided to write a textbook based on physics concepts himself, which could be easily read and understood by anyone. After eight years, Mr. Verma finally published a two-volume book “Physical Concepts” in 1992.
His experience at IIT Kanpur
In 1994, Verma resigned from Patna Science College and started working as an assistant professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, teaching many core professional courses such as quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, nuclear physics, etc.

dispute
After a Twitter user with the handle ‘Real Heroes’ shared a post about HC Verma, which claimed that he received Rs 1 crore in royalties from his book Concepts of Physics and donated the money to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund and other charitable trusts, Mr. Verma refuted the claims in the Twitter post through a Facebook post; the Twitter post also claimed that Mr. Verma owns a Bajaj Priya motorcycle, which he drives most of the time. Later, many Facebook and Twitter users sided with Mr. Verma and promoted the rebuttal of the fake news.

According to Mr. Verma, this incident made him more focused on his studies and later, he passed almost all his exams with flying colors.
- HC Verma’s first salary as a lecturer at Patna Science College was Rs.
- While serving as a professor at IIT-Kanpur, HC Verma along with several other faculty members and students started an NGO called Shiksha Sopan. The NGO was dedicated to providing educational assistance to children living near IIT-Kanpur who could not afford the school fees.
- HC Verma has been an active member of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). In 2011, he started a new project called National Network of Physics Teachers of India (NANI) and IAPT helped Mr. Verma to open multiple NANI centers in more than 22 cities in India. NANI has conducted several training activities, teaching aid development courses, etc. in these schools and colleges. More than 1000 schools and colleges have benefited from this program.
- HC Verma has developed nearly 600 physics experiments which are used by many teachers and professors as demonstration experiments in their classrooms. During his tenure as a lecturer, HC Verma also developed various informal and open-ended experiments which students could assemble and perform on their own in class. HC Verma also conducted various workshops for physics teachers to impart some demonstration-based training methods to help students relate science to real life.
- He has trained more than 8,000 teachers through workshops, of which more than 1,000 have changed their teaching style. The National Academy of Sciences of India (NASI) provided funds for organizing these workshops.
- HC Verma loves yoga and is often seen practicing it with his family and students.
- HC Verma has a YouTube account where he uploads videos on various topics in physics and provides some real-life examples.
- HC Verma retired from the post of Professor of Physics at IIT Kanpur on 30 June 2017. In July 2017, the YouTube channel “The Viral Fever” made a video on HC Verma and uploaded it on their channel in his memory.
