A reporter calls out Blake Lively for a 2016 interview that she now calls “the most awkward interview situation I’ve ever experienced.” But a source close to the actress says the exchange was sparked by the reporter’s “rude remark” to Lively.
On Saturday, August 10, Norwegian journalist Kjersti Flaa uploaded a 4-minute interview with Lively to YouTube under the title “Interview with Blake Lively that made me want to quit my job.”
The viral video, which has garnered more than 900,000 views since August 15, features Lively, now 36, and Coffee society Costar Parker Posey, now 55, chats with Fla to discuss Woody Allen’s 2016 film.
“Sitting with Blake Lively and her co-star Parker Posey Cafe Society (2016) is the most awkward interview situation I’ve ever experienced,” Flaa wrote in the video’s description. “Isn’t it okay to congratulate someone on their pregnancy or ask another woman about the costumes she’s wearing in the movie? Let me know what you think in the comments.”

At the beginning of the clip, Flaa congratulated Lively on her “little bump,” since the interview was filmed around the time Lively was pregnant with her and Ryan Reynolds’ daughter Inez, who was born on September 30, 2016, a few months before after Coffee society opened in cinemas. Lively responded by saying the same to Flai, “Congratulations on your little bump.”
After Lively and Posey discussed “lovely female breasts,” the reporter told the pair she thought the film was “visually amazing,” before asking about their costumes. “Did you like wearing those clothes?” asked Flaa.
“Everybody wants to talk about clothes, but I wonder if they would ask men about clothes,” Lively Posey asked, before Flaa replied “I would.” Without directly answering Flai, Lively then went on to talk to her co-star about the clothes worn by the men who star in the film. “It’s not just women who have clothes, but I feel like women understand the conversation,” she said.

A source close to Lively, who says they have not discussed the interview with her, tells PEOPLE that she sympathizes with Lively’s reaction to the baby bump comment. “You’re a reporter in Hollywood interviewing a working mom and you can’t think of anything better to start the interview than ‘Congratulations on your baby bump?’ Of course Blake got upset,” says the source.
“That is really such a rude statement. She is pregnant with a child,” they added. “If you feel the need to admit she’s pregnant, at least do it respectfully.”
Since uploading the interview, Flaa shared a message with her followers on her Instagram Story on Wednesday, August 14: “Thank you to all of you wonderful people who sent me so many messages of support after I posted this interview. I am truly touched ❤️.”

The re-released interview comes amid rumors of a rift between Lively and her It ends with us costar and director Justin Baldoni. The project marks Livelyn’s first lead film role in four years, and she also served as a producer on the film. Baldoni spent most of his solo press appearance ahead of the film’s release posing with his wife and away from the rest of the cast during the film’s New York premiere on August 6. Baldoni has since hired crisis PR manager Melissa Nathan of The Agency Group amid reports of his alleged on-set behavior.
