Halle Bailey and DDG’s Relationship Timeline

Halle Bailey and DDG have marked some major relationship milestones since they first got together.

The Color Purple the actress and rapper first linked up via social media before going public with their romance in March 2022.

“I grew up on YouTube and I would always see young black creators and I was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them,” Bailey said. Essence about how their relationship came about. “I had completely forgotten about him. But then I saw that he was giving up music, and I really gravitated towards this one song. He accidentally messaged me – and the rest is history.”

Since then, they have supported each other at various events and spoke highly of each other in interviews. In January 2024, Bailey revealed that she and DDG had become parents for the first time when she announced the birth of their baby boy, Halo.

March 2022: Halle Bailey and DDG go public with their relationship

After sparking dating rumors in January 2022 when they were spotted at Usher’s Las Vegas residence, DDG went public with their relationship while wishing Bailey a happy birthday. “Happy birthday to the most beautiful, flying, sweetest. I love you forever,” captioned the since-deleted post.

June 26, 2022: Halle Bailey and DDG make their red carpet debut

A few months after becoming Instagram official, Bailey and DDG hit the red carpet as a couple at the 2022 BET Awards. The couple held hands and wore coordinating black outfits with statement necklaces.

August 11, 2022: DDG supports Halle Bailey in Diversity Power of Young Hollywood event

August 22, 2022: Halle Bailey says she’s in love with DDG

While Bailey graced the cover EssenceIn the September/October 2022 issue with her sister Chloe, she briefly reflected on her relationship with DDG. In addition to revealing how their romance came about, they also asked her about the current state of their relationship.

When asked if she was in love, she confirmed: “Yes. I certainly am.”

August 26, 2022: Halle Bailey stars in DDG’s ‘If I Want You’ music video

That same month, Bailey and DDG shared the screen as the actress appeared in his music video for “If I Want You”, where they were shown locking lips.

“Everyone go watch ‘if i want you’ by @ddg it’s out now ❣️you might see a familiar face 🤭💗,” the singer and actress wrote in an Instagram post to promote the video.

October 7, 2022: DDG says he’s proud of Halle Bailey’s role in Little Mermaid

While talking to PEOPLE about his new album It’s not me, it’s youthe rapper commented on his girlfriend’s upcoming role in Little Mermaidin which Ariel plays the lead role.

“I’m very proud of her. And I’m just happy to see that,” DDG said of Bailey’s historic role. “I feel like sometimes I’m more excited than anybody else. Just seeing that and seeing everything that she dreamed of come to life, it’s really crazy.”

February 24, 2023: Halle Bailey and DDG attend Milan Fashion Week

In early 2023, the couple made a stylish appearance together at the Gucci show during Milan Fashion Week. Bailey was seen in a soft pink dress as she rested her head on the shoulder of DDG, who was photographed wearing a Gucci jacket and matching trousers.

May 17, 2023: Halle Bailey opens up about her relationship with DDG

During promotion Little Mermaid, Bailey opened up to PEOPLE about her fairytale romance with DDG. When asked if her love had the qualities of a true Prince Charming (or Prince Eric, for that matter), Bailey smiled sweetly and laughed. “People like to talk about this,” she said, before adding, “Yeah. I would say that.”

“I think the best thing about young love is that you’re able to find yourself through this journey of loving someone else,” she continued. “And you discover new parts of yourself and maybe things you hadn’t noticed before about your heart.”

July 14, 2023: DDG appears to reference Halle Bailey on ‘Famous’

In July 2023, DDG made headlines for seemingly calling out Bailey on his new song “Famous,” in which he raps about feeling “insecure” about her interactions with a male co-star in Little Mermaid and her newfound fame.

In one part of the song, he alluded to Bailey kissing his co-star Jonah Hauer-King in the movie with the lyrics, “Filmin’ a movie now you kissing dudes / You know I love you lot / I don’t give af — if that — for promotion / I don’t want to see this s— anymore.”

The rapper also seemingly addressed his feelings for Bailey by holding hands with Hauer-King during the UK premiere of their film. “Why y’all holding hands in a photo? / You know I’m insecure, that’s a no-no,” he sang.

The “Well Off” singer then opened up about his complicated feelings for Bailey as she rose to fame in the song’s chorus.

He croons on the chorus, “Fall in love, I hate that shit / Get me out of my head, I can’t fuck with relationships / I don’t even have enough time in the day to chase a bitch / I’m not even asking for much, I’m asking you to do the basics with — / The hardest thing for me was falling in love with a famous bitch.”

5 September 2023: Halle Bailey reveals how DDG inspired her new album

Following DDG’s controversial track that seemed to reference her, the “Baby Girl” singer teased what’s in store for her upcoming debut solo album. IN Cosmopolitan cover story, Bailey said that “love” was a “really big” source of musical inspiration.

“All musical inspiration really just comes from life experiences,” she told the publication. “The love was really big for me too, because it’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s, like, ‘wow’ in your brain. It’s just fireworks, a spark for creativity.”

She explained the seriousness of their relationship: “You know, you have love experiences with puppies, you think it’s love. But this is my first deep, deep, true love.”

October 17, 2023: Halle Bailey and DDG attend Glamour Women of the Year Awards

In October 2023, Bailey and DDG went on a date at a restaurant Glamour Women of the Year Awards in London, where the singer was honored with the Game Changer Award.

During her acceptance speech and after the ceremony on social media, the actress/singer shared how grateful she is to be recognized and how challenging it can be as a public figure.

“This is such a special honor for me and it’s an incredible feeling to be recognized for the work I’ve put in all the years of my career,” she wrote on social media. “Being a young woman in the spotlight is definitely not for the faint of heart.. but because of God, my loved ones and mentors, I can face the world with my head held high every day.”

October 31, 2023: Halle Bailey and DDG Wear Matching Couples Halloween Costumes

Bailey and DDG went all out for Halloween, dressing up as famous film and music couples. For one costume, the couple dressed up as Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakur’s characters Justice and Lucky from the 1993 romantic drama. Poetic justice.

For another look, the duo channeled Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston, recreating the pair’s red look from the 1993 Billboard Music Awards.

November 20, 2023: Halle Bailey responds to pregnancy rumors

In November 2023, Bailey briefly responded to speculation about her personal life by calling out commenters who said she had a “pregnant nose” in a recent photo. “Look, if I see one more person say something about my nose, it’s going to be hell,” Bailey said in a video he shared on Instagram.

“You know why? Because I’m black. I love my nose,” she continued. “Why are you worrying about my nose? Leave me the hell alone.”

December 2023: Halle Bailey and DDG celebrate Christmas together

In December 2023, Bailey and DDG celebrated the holidays together wearing matching Christmas pajamas. The rapper took to Snapchat to share various clips from their celebrations, including two lavish gifts given by Bailey.

In addition to surprising her with a Tiffany bracelet, Bailey also slipped a black Birkin bag inside, which DDG explained in a video caption as “her dream gift.”

January 6, 2024: Halle Bailey announces the birth of a son with DDG

After ringing in the New Year, Bailey publicly announced the birth of her and DDG’s son, Halo. “Even though we’re only a few days into the new year, the biggest thing 2023 could do for me is bring me my son.. welcome to the world my halo 🥰👼🏽 ✨the world is desperate to meet you 😉 🤣♥️,” she captioned the photo on which she holds the small hand of her newborn.

January 7, 2024: DDG opens up about becoming a first-time parent with Halle Bailey

A day after Bailey announced the arrival of their son, DDG posted a video on YouTube where he opened up about parenthood for the first time. The rapper shared details about his journey to fatherhood, calling the actress a “great mom.”

“Me and Halle had a baby together. I wouldn’t pick any other person in the world to have a baby with. We’re learning. She’s a great mom. It’s like crazy. She’s amazing,” he shared in the video.

He later said in the video that “she’s a professional mom” and added that their new family of three is “great.”
