A Mauritian driver in his early twenties lost his life early Thursday after colliding with a pickup truck on the Laviolette Bridge. “The incident occurred Thursday morning at 5:25 am traveling north of the bridge. “It is our understanding that the small car would have struck a trailer pulled by a pickup truck from behind,” said Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a sergeant with the Sureté du Quebec. The 20 foot trailer was most likely not visible to the driver of the car. Then his car crashed into him. After the accident, the driver was taken to hospital, where his condition was described as “very critical”. The hospital announced his death. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The northbound Laviolette Bridge had to be closed for over an hour to allow emergency services time to respond.
However, on Thursday around 6:45 am, it was released back to traffic. In addition, on Thursday morning, the Chemin-du-Roy school service center announced on its Facebook page that it was not possible to transfer children from the south coast to Trois-Rivieres.
