Hallmark Channel Favorite Andrew Walker Shares the ‘Highlight’ of Shooting ‘A Safari Romance’ in South Africa

For Andrew Walker, the best part of filming his latest Hallmark Channel movie was giving back.

The Canadian actor (44) revealed on Instagram that it was the “highlight” of filming Safari romance earlier this year he was able to help fix a school in South Africa.

Walker shared a short video with the platform on Thursday, showing costar Brit Bristow and several of their peers painting the building’s interior and exterior, laying bricks outside and coming together to give the local school an updated look.

“The only story I haven’t shared yet… @britbristow @leifbristow @agnes.bristow and a team of other crew members renovated the school where we filmed one of the scenes,” said Leif Bristow of himself, producers, fellow actors, crew members and director.

“We didn’t get to see the kids’ faces when they showed up Monday morning to a new classroom, freshly painted exterior, new playground, new soccer balls, and new brick patio…but I’m sure it was sweet!!”

The actor added that he could have enlisted his sister JenniMay and father Bruce to help him.

“Sending my sis and dad off to work on the first day after 20 hours of travel was also a highlight 😆,” Walker wrote. “Thank you for starting this Leif & Agnes Bristow, it’s what makes you two who you are. ❤️”

Walker has been keeping fans updated on his time in South Africa over the past few months, from sharing a clip of his day with elephants in May to uploading a candid video of him dancing with local students.

In his shot with the elephant, Walker stood under the animal, petting it from different angles and looking delighted as he posed for several pictures. “Looking into his eyes, you could see his kindness,” Walker wrote. “I’ve always appreciated elephants, but this experience took them to a whole new level. I’m glad I can have dad and cutie with me.” Walker also noted the “tragic fact” that “there are still somewhere between 20,000 – 35,000 African elephants being poached every year” and encouraged his followers to check out the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Safari romance, which premiered on August 12, marks Walker’s latest work with Hallmark. He previously starred in 2022 Three wise men and a babyin 2021 27-hour dayand the 2020s sweet autumnamong many other projects.

In 2020, he and frequent co-star Nikki DeLoach revealed to PEOPLE their natural on-screen chemistry for sweet autumnand how they “immediately bonded over the children” as new parents.

“I felt like I’d known him my whole life,” DeLoach said at the time. “There’s just such an ease with Andrew. I think there’s something going on that doesn’t happen to everybody.”
